Otis Fishing Report for August 15, 2023
In a Groundhog Day maneuver, Otis gets his first fish just 5 minutes into the new day! And 7 minutes later, he scores another! In his first hour, Otis lands 4 very large fish — not too bad for it being fairly Fishless at the Falls the last couple of nights! And this isn’t your Dad’s Otis — he’s got Gusto! Pep! Pounce! to beat the band, as illustrated by Oregonshefisher‘s GIF from Books Falls cam here!
Meanwhile, Grazer and Bucky keep standing up at the front of the movie theater, each taking their turns at Pounce! But Otis is FOCUSED. The Fish-Eating Machine will not be stopped tonight. He watches the water in his never-ending quest for the next fish inspection. This “understanding” between the parties remains the status quo for a bit. Then Grazer does her chitter chatter bit, and Otis tries the Conveyor. Then Grazer changes her mind, as is the prerogative of the ladies, and Otis returns to his Office.
A hushed lull blankets the Falls. Fish swim (probably). Bears fish (definitely). All is quiet.
Then at 4:08 a.m. there’s a vigorous POUNCE to break the silence! Just 5 minutes later, there’s another! And another! And -DANG- we can’t calculate the time and type that fast (and we type fast)! Four pounces and four fish in 15 minutes!
Otis hits the mini-salmon-jackpot! The crowds cheer! And then another! The fans go wild! Now it’s five in 18 minutes! Chat explodes! And another! Wait, what’s that? The fish are lining up to jump into Otis belly!! “Pick me! Pick me!”

Otis catches and eats 16 fish in 52 minutes — that’s a fish every 3.25 minutes — and with Otis having just two good Salmon Teeth remaining, that’s saying something! And look at the size of this bad boy in MaryM Otis 2016‘s GIF from Brooks Falls cam! We ain’t eatin’ minnows tonight, my friends!
With eyes like heat-seeking missiles, Otis continues catching (at a countable pace now), and in pops Grazer to get a piece of the action with missiles of her own!
And then the quiet — most appropriately illustrated on Riffles cam — returns.
Otis relaxes in his Office now (don’t let his laser eyes fool you).
And at 10:30 a.m., the quiet is disrupted again! This time, a very large parachute desc… oh wait — that’s 151 Walker! Walker descends into the Office from above the Falls to disrupt the peace.
Otis exits, full from his midnight escapades, and decides it might be time for snoozles. He and Alice discuss possibilities, as Otis contemplates his next move.
Otis climbs into his Bank Bunk and begins to redecorate — because isn’t that what we all do upon returning from a 24-hour fishing spree? It could be the fragrance he’s after, or the cushion, or maybe that branch just smacked him in the forehead once too often. Whatever the reason, problem solved, as Otis whacks that pesky branch down.
Now what is the best way to nap and keep one eye toward the Office, in case Walker comes a knockin’? Let me count the ways… By 11:00 a.m., Otis is finally enjoying some snoozles.
About 12:30 our boy awakes. And it would appear that his -sole- purpose is to climb on rocks. Because right after this Brooks Falls snap, Otis crawls back into his Bank Bunk. That boy got a sense of humor, don’t he? 😉
Just before 1:30 p.m., Otis gets out of bed and heads toward his Office. Walker’s hanging around, and it looks like it might be… rocky. 😉
We have some catching up to do (pesky clients!), so we’re going to hold right here and will add “later fish” later. Total count midnight to now is 28 Whopping Fish! On high-grading: Otis appeared to let a small bit of some fish go, but he was NOT being selective and was eating (estimating) three-quarters of each, so we’re calling them all FISH. 🙂
Wishes for fishes, everyone! ♥
