Otis Fishing Report UPDATE for September 24, 2023: Otis left for naps yesterday afternoon about 2:30 p.m. Katmai time, and by the blessing of a CamOp who was focused on the Fish Ladder and Near Bank, we saw him return from naps (or cheating on us fishing elsewhere) about 5:45 p.m. via the Fish Ladder at the Falls. For those of you keeping score, that’s Otis’ 5th time Down the Ladder this season (and, thus, our Ladder count is evened out, since we witnessed his last trek up, but not the matching trek down).
He heads to the Sandbar looking for post-snoozles munchies and finds scraps at one end of it and then the other. He assesses the Falls situation.
And decides elsewhere is the better option. He moseys over to the Near Bank toward Riffles, hugs the bank looking for salmon, and presumably heads Down River, admiring the beautiful fall colors along the way and enjoying the late afternoon sun (probably).
About thirty minutes later, we catch up to his meandering self on River Watch.
Almost immediately, our boy is chewing and then checks out the latest snacks around and about. He pauses to give us his best Downward Bear.
Then he heads for the Salmon Cache and greets his bear friends with a little howdydo and immediately grabs a snack.
He’s off cams a bit, and then we find him in front of the tall grasses. He swims around here, venturing out from his usual near-bank walks, possibly in search of something swimming (instead of floating). 😉
Then darkness falls, River Watch cam is parked, and we conclude with the midnight-to-midnight fish count totaled at 3 Fish + 37 DOAs + 3 Scraps. Ambling about the River is paying off, and our boy is getting FAT!
