Otis Fishing Report for October 14, 2023: It’s a quiet Saturday evening following a long day, and we’re making Bear Claws (aka caramel-and-chocolate covered pecans, i.e. Turtles) to celebrate the success of The Otis Fund. We had not quite made the $300,000, but we were optimistic. 😉 Over the boiling caramel concoction, we *swear* we hear yelling coming through the airwaves inside our head. We check our phone, and sure enough, our tags exploded (thank you!) and guess who’s come to dinner?

Riffles is Otis’ cam of choice lately, so we head there simultaneous with chat. At precisely 4:08 p.m. Katmai time, Otis arrives on scene. Errr… on cam, anyway. 😉 He’s ambling between the Far Bank and the Sandbar.

And he’s *thrilled* to find that the Salmon Buffet is open today! It’s not quite the all-you-can-eat deal he visited earlier this year, but there are quite a few scraps hanging around, and Salmon Scrapple is good eats this time of year. Circling the Sandbar a good few minutes, Otis partakes eagerly.

Being the multi-tasking bear that he is, he finishes up his Scrapple while giving a lil wiggle of his waggle to CamOps. You know… as a thank you for the exposure during the final push for fundraising. 😉 Thanks be to SydneyH for the GIF!

Otis meanders toward the Platform, and with a sudden burst of energy, he pounces and Blair-55 captures it perfectly! Is it a fish? Well, there wasn’t much wiggle, but there was a wiggle, and we’re pretty sure it wasn’t Otis’ waggle that caused that tail to wiggle — we’re calling it: FISH! (And BIG fish at that!)

Otis takes his wiggler to the Near Bank to dine, as his Royal Guard Alice keeps would-be thieves at bay.

He checks that spot again to see whether there’s another wiggler, but seconds are not being served this day. He sniffs around a bit, licks the air, and heads up the bank toward the back side of the Platform where we happen to know Otis has a favorite snoozles spot with fresh sheets. 😀

It was a quick 13-minute visit, but a productive one! We counted 1 Fish + 5 Scraps for this October 14, and at this writing, $286,183 for the Katmai Conservancy — way to go, everyone!!

We’re signing off until tomorrow, when we hope to have at least another 13 minutes with Otis, and sending Wishes for Fishes and an extra push for a Sunshiny Day tomorrow (we’re looking at YOU solar panels!) — Happy Saturday everyone! ♥

P.S. Timestamp for Snoozles Departure at Platform No. 480 is 4:20 p.m. Katmai time October 14.

  1. I just love your website almost as much as I love Otis and the bear cams. I’m going to miss reading your creative Daily Report. I hope you keep your website for those of us that still need an Otis fix when the cams are down until next season.
Do you watch on YouTube or explore website? What is your name as it appears on YouTube? I think I know.
I hope you and your family enjoyed your bear claws.

    1. Thank you for the nice compliment! Yes, the website will stay up. We’re going to try to get the 2021 and 2022 Reports up, such as they were, as time permits.

I watch all the bear cams on YouTube because I have a plugin to allow to run through faster and get snaps more easily. I don’t post or anything on YouTube though. I watch Dumpling and Underwater on Explore. I use Explore chat.
