Otis Fishing Report UPDATE

Otis Fishing Report UPDATE for August 8, 2023
Just after 5:00 p.m. Katmai time, Otis returns from naps from behind the Platform. He’s looking spry and hungry! He hangs out between the Jacuzzi and the Sandbar a minute for his usual intel-gathering mission. He walks toward the Platform and there’s a possibility he’s going back for more naps. No, no, wait — we see his hind end pause on Brooks Falls Low, and when we get his proper side on cam, he’s chewing — scraps!

Minutes later, he takes a quick spin in the Jacuzzi, and then heads toward his (occupied) Office. He hangs out in front of Wallflower’s Wall a minute or three. Behind the Conveyor. Into the Jacuzzi-Conveyor-like space between the Jacuzzi and Conveyor. (Does it have a name?) Behind the Jacuzzi. He scores a scrap so big it’s a FISH (a headless fish has to be 85 percent a fish, yeah?)!

He hangs out behind the Jacuzzi a bit. He sniffs the water. He steps into the J, and 907(?) joins him, though that doesn’t last long. He heads toward the bank, scores another scrap, and figures behind the Jacuzzi is a profitable venture, so he sticks around here a hot minute. He heads toward the Sandbar to see whether they’re serving yet (nope), and then into an empty Jacuzzi.

Give him 20 or so minutes, and the salmon has landed! Score 1 for Otis’ evening shift!

He heads back in, and two minutes later, he scores another! And another! Then he grabs what appears to be a partial (but not a high-grade), and we are only mentioning it because it makes up for whatever doubts you have about the above-noted scrap being counted as a fish. 😀 Minutes later, there’s another!

Next, Otis heads toward his Office. On the way, he picks up a fish and dines at the Rock Table. But wait! He leaves very large remains at the Rock Table. We’ve got our first high-grade of the night! This is a sign of imminent feasting to come, my friends.

He immediately catches another, and it looks like he eats the entire thing this time. He meanders about and stops at 747’s favorite space — the Conveyor. This is the first we’ve seen him here this season. Give us about 10 minutes, and we’ve got a HUGE FISH! We see him swinging it around and clear evidence that few teeth is not a barrier to high-grading in the second Brooks Falls cam shot here. A second after that shot, he drops it.

Then there’s another… and another… and we, watching rewinds on high speed, can’t mark the time and type the word “FISH,” they’re coming in so fast! He’s mostly eating the whole fish, but every now and again he throws in a high-grade or one of those fake outs where it looks like he’s tossing it only to pick up his paw and finish the rest.

Around 8:00 p.m., somebear (who is not 747) comes in to take a turn at 747’s Conveyor. Simultaneously, 128 Grazer (I think) steps into the Office. Otis hangs behind the Conveyor a minute, then heads toward the Jacuzzi, and lands at Alice’s Restaurant. He meanders a minute and finds a tasty morsel (which is less than a scrap, if you’re wondering). Otis hangs out here a while and we’re shocked — shocked, I tell you! — to find out Alice’s Restaurant allows table dancing this year! Even more shocked, we are, to find out Otis partakes while the Alices look on on Brooks Falls cam!

While Brooks Falls cam is zoomed in a bit and Otis is off cam, I (finally) notice we have POPCORN! That’s fun!

Otis hangs at Alice’s until just before 11: p.m., and then he gets to his Office. The crowds cheer “Let the games begin!” and then chant “FISH! FISH!” as Otis immediately begins to catch his fill of salmon. As Otis settles in for a long and fishful night…

This, my friends, is where we shall leave you, as the clock strikes midnight in Katmai. Total fish count update for August 8 (midnight to midnight) is 36 Fish + 2 Scraps + 6 High Grades + 1 Scratch-and-Sniff.

We’ll be back with the August 9 report later today. Wishes for fishes and a great day! ♥

7:14 p.m. Katmai time is a great example of it appearing as though Otis has let half a salmon go. He pauses for a beverage, and then lifts that paw with the other half. 😉

BONUS IMAGE: Because it was such a great fishing day that Otis may just have them going in both ends here on Brooks Falls cam. 😉
