Otis Fishing Not-A-Report for August 25, 2023: Good morning, Bear Lovers! On cams, we last saw Otis at 10:00 p.m. Katmai time on August 22 in the Lower River. He was looking fun and fat and adorable!
We read in chat yesterday that Ranger Naomi said during the Play-by-Play broadcast that Otis had been seen in person (not on cams) in the Lower River yesterday or the day before. We went back and watched the PBP twice to catch that exactly and missed it (too many daydreams here). But wherever he is, no doubt Otis is getting fatter by the fish, and we’ll be here to size him up on his return!
Until then, here again is our Boo dancing in the Lower River as captured by SuspectCelery. Pretty sure that’s the Happy Dance Otis does when he knows 151 Walker isn’t around. 😉
Sending wishes for fishes and fat dreams all around! ♥

Otis is so cute, I miss him! Thank you for keeping writing about him! I hope he’ll come back on cams someday this summer
Prior to the last two years’ record fish runs, Otis would go on “walk about” away from Brooks for a couple weeks each summer to follow the fish and keep getting fat. With the 2023 fish run being more typical (more like 2013, if we recall correctly), it’s not unexpected that he is away from the Falls right now.
Katmai is more than 4 MILLION acres, and the cams capture a small part. We expect Otis is off cam and will return to Brooks.
I LOVE this report and site. I’ve been watching the Bear Cams since 2018. Otis quickly became my favorite. I love many of them, but he is the best. Grateful for his all shares as long as we have them. I agree that 164, Bucky/Shower Bear is becoming a favorite. He makes me laugh.
Thank you for using all your talents and interests to create this site for us Otis fans.
Thank you so much for your nice comment and taking time to write it!
We agree — 164 Bucky is a lot of fun! But no one compares to Otis.
