Otis Fishing Report UPDATE for August 11, 2023
Catching up on yesterday’s Otis News, what Otis caught most of yesterday was Zzzz’s with what may be a record five naps!

And when last we left you, Otis was doing exactly that near the Brooks Platform. It takes a sharp eye to see him returning in the dark, and Jillbini had that eye, helping us track Otis’ return from that last nap of the day to the minute at 11:26 p.m. Katmai time. Thanks, Jillbini and BearWatcher for the assists– you saved us a few hours of rewinds. ♥

On arrival, Otis curves around for the Sandbar Buffet and picks up a tasty scrap and then heads toward his Office. Seeing that it’s occupied, he lands at the Conveyor. And, yes, the Royal Jewels are a valid method of IDing the King. 😉

A few short minutes later, Otis catches this fish on Brooks Falls cam and eats every bit of it before heading to his Office to begin a new day in Katmai.

Updated fish count for August 11 is 8 Fish + 1 Scrap, with the footnote that the time we missed was midnight to 4:00 a.m. From 4:00 a.m. forward, we know Otis caught 6 on cam, and that’s the reason we’re sure his actual count is higher. 🙂

Catching up on August 12 now and will report back later. In the meantime, wishes for fishes! May the waters glow orange for each and every bear! ♥

  1. You are amazing !,! Can’t thank you enough! It’s obvious that you love Otis as much I and thousands around
    the world do!

  2. He’s been a fishing king all night- can’t wait for the total for today. Thank you for doing this! It means a lot to us Otis lovers!

  3. Thank you for tracking the life of an international celebrity. Fans enjoy learning about these free wild animals while the people stay on the walled in platforms. I see some fans have medical issues that want to be distracted by enjoying the bear activities while others just enjoy learning. Thank you to everyone that helps protect and conserve our parks and wild animals.

  4. Just wanted to share a scene which may be too late now to capture: Friday 8/11 shortly after 5:30 pm, Otis napping on bankbed and he burps! Or a hiccup, not sure which. Absolutely adorable! Thank you for your efforts, very appreciated.

  5. Brooks Falls bears and the gulls have brought me joy for several years. Otis is the best! I look forward to your report every day.
