Otis Fishing Report UPDATE for August 17, 2023
Otis was still teetering on the edge of sleep (or not to sleep) when we left you last night, and adorable snoozles eventually won.
When Otis awakes, he heads to the Far Pool and we see him here on Brooks Falls cam lookin’ gooood!
Otis wanders a bit, and CamOps give us a portrait for our office walls.
He continues wandering on Brooks Falls cam. A little walk around the block for our boy.
He pauses to stand on rocks and gather intel. Where are those pesky, tasty fish anyway? He pops into the Jacuzzi a hot minute. He pops out of the Jacuzzi. He heads back to the Far Pool and hangs out behind the Conveyor. He Grabs a snack at Alice’s Salmon Scrapple Buffet and contemplates Brook’s Life.
And then he does something surprising. If we spy the Far Pool on Riffles, we see that there is a much greater distance between the Office and Conveyor — easily the length of two 747s. However, when 151 Walker is in the Office and 747 is on the Conveyor, it’s not many a bear who would trek between the two. Yet here’s our boy doing exactly that!
A few minutes later, 747 takes a mini-break, and it’s Otis’ turn to operate the Conveyor. When 747 returns, Otis returns to the void between him and Walker. A short bit later, Otis hangs it up for a bit, goes for a nap in his Bank Bunk, munches on some of the décor (fireweed, per other chatters), and does a quick bit of grooming.
About an hour later, Otis awakes. Ahh, the difference a nap makes!
And then he… uh… well. You know. Our limber boy does this.
Having done that and following a very brief encounter with 747, he heads to his Office. And, at last, we have a FISH to report!
Then Walker comes a knockin’, and Otis heads to that precarious position between him and 747. 747 leaves. Otis heads to the Conveyor. Walker to Otis. Otis to Office. And round and round goes the Beary Go Round! Walker eventually steps out and now 164 Bucky is Beary Go Rounding by himself, while Otis does as Otis will — he fishes in his Office, oblivious to everything around him. Then, FISH!
And then comes the rain, and all we see is two cute lil glowing ears against nature’s backdrop.
As Katmai goes dark, cams go wide, and bugs fly high, we end the August 17 with an updated count of 36 Fish + 3 Scraps + 1 Sniff! A good day for Otis and viewers across the lands!
Sending wishes for fishes, until next time! ♥

Just came across this website today. Brilliant work. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for visiting and your comment! We’re glad you like the site. You’re very welcome!
The Otis Fishing Reports are my favorite (pain reduction) activity! Who can agonize over a solidly pinched neck nerve, when there is news like this to read? I get so entranced by the nuances of “Beary-Go-Round,” then the “Fishes and Misses,” that how could I possibly remember my arm was on fire? I thank you watchers, writers and camera peoples, for this excellent and positively pain numbing delight. Who knew that Otis Fishing is better than drugs? I highly recommend this for the very best relief and laughter .
Oh, gosh — thank you so much for your comment. Your joy of Otis keeps us going. We hope you’re feeling better soon, and thank you for visiting!
Thank you so much for creating this! What an amazing idea. It has seriously become the best part of my day. I actually think I enjoy it better than watching the bear cams. I feel like our time with our King of Katmai is limited and this site ensures we don’t miss out anything. I am seriously grateful.
You’re very welcome! When time permits, we’ll be adding 2021 and 2022 reports, so make sure you check back in the off season!
How exciting to get to read reports from ’21 and ’22! Totally looking forward to it and Thank You in advance! 🙂
The report is informative and delightfully written. I very much appreciate the lighthearted context. Thank you very much.
Thank you for taking the time to say so, and you’re very welcome! 😀
