Otis Fishing Report UPDATE for August 9, 2023
Picking up where we left off last night, just before 4 p.m. at the Falls, Otis awakes from his Bank Bunk nap. He uses the facilities. He walks to his Office. And it’s instantaneous > 1 fish, 2 fish! Would ya look at the size of this one!?
He gets 1… no, 2… no, 3… no… 8 fish in a row — literally every 2 minutes! And among them this… shark?! (JK, of course!)
And then 128 Grazer appears. 🙂 And so… Otis meanders about a bit and grabs a lil snack at Alice’s, and then heads to his Bank Bunk. The thing is… who goes to sleep after stuffing themselves at the all-you-can-catch salmon bar? So Otis spends about 20 minutes on Riffles digesting and burping (hahaha) while the Alices fly over and lullaby him to sleep.
By 6:00 p.m., Otis contemplates heading out for more fish at Riffles.
Thirty(ish) minutes later, Otis hits up Alice’s for the Salmon Scrapple Buffet and partakes of some Salmon Latte (it’s their specialty, dontcha know!). And then heads back to bed to hit the snoozles button just one more time. No surprise considering he fished 22 hours of a 24-hour period before he lay down in the first place! ZZZzzzz…
He gets up and hangs out at Alice’s a bit and then heads toward his Office which, again and unfortunately for our boy, has a big brown occupied sign on it. That’s okay — Alice’s Buffet is darned good and plentiful today because, well, the Office is occupied, the fish are running, and somebear is high-grading. 😉 As Otis waits for the buffet to be refilled, he contemplates life.
By 9:30 p.m., Otis is fishing up a storm in his Office again — about 30 seconds in, FISH! And another, another… rinse, repeat!
About 10:00, Otis has a *very* large airplane-sized visitor and takes this bitty fish to go, as he looks over his shoulder.
Wait, wait, wait, what the… ? In an unusual move, Otis’ buddy 747 didn’t just poke the bear, he’s pursuing him! And, weirdly, he’s doing it for what may be the smallest fish we’ve seen this season! (Although 747 is actually a daintier eater than his girth might suggest, and maybe bitty fish and a bottle of wine are his thing?)
Otis tells 747 to back off, and he does after a hot minute. As 747 heads to Otis’ Office, Otis hits the Salmon Scrapple Buffet again.
And then 128 Grazer enters the chat.
Peace loving sort that he is, Otis goes back to his Bank Bunk, but not for sleep this time. This might be a good vantage point from which to fish. And so he does. Grazer and 747 each do a drive-by. Otis pays them no mind. Eventually, Otis lays his head down. He picks it up. The sun sets over Katmai, and eventually, Otis sleeps.
Just 30 minutes later, Otis awakes for a drink of water and perhaps to use facilities again. He climbs on rocks. Again. He picks up a huge scrap — so much of a scrap that he high-grades it!
And as the clock strikes midnight in Katmai, Otis enters his Office, and we begin again…
Total fish count for August 9 midnight to midnight is 35 Fish + 12 High-Grades + 7 Scraps + 3 Sniffs!
Whew! More later, and until then, wishes for fishes! ♥

What an endearing sight , love this old boy’s lust for life , what a character , I hope he has many years that we can also enjoy. Long live otis (and the gang)
Whatever they’re paying the guys ( and girls) at Katmai, its not enough , this site needs worldwide spamming , it will touch millions if not billions of people, which could be the difference between extinction of more than just the human race, these bears might die too….
Thank you for your comment! 🙂 I’m not associated with Katmai — I just love Otis and count his fish. ♥
