Otis Fishing Report for September 10, 2023: As many other days during Salmon Season, Otis begins his day in his Office, as the clock strikes midnight in Katmai.

About 5 a.m., Otis leaves his Office unexpectedly. Then the big bodacious booty that is 128 Grazer enters the frame, and we think we know the reason. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Otis is nowhere to be found and may well have slipped into something more comfortable (like a nap!) up the Far Path again, and the cam follows Ms. Grazer a while. Try watching her on high-speed a minute or six — fun times! CamOps did *incredible* keeping up with our Energizer, even after she wandered into the darkness!

About three hours later, Otis returns to his Office (giving way to the idea that he did, in fact, leave for naps earlier). He gives it his best shot — about 2.5 hours — and decides to head out. Brooks Falls cam follows him, and Blair-55 catches Otis meandering in the River in this GIF.

Otis checks for scraps in the nooks and crannies created by fallen trees and landscaping, with no luck, as he heads Down River. We finally catch up to him again around 8:00 a.m., we catch a glimpse of Periscoping Otis on River Watch. Here’s an Otis ID tip for you: Corisande spied 274 Overflow in the River earlier today — a known Otis Look-Alike. Overflow has a “Sheriff’s Badge” on the side where Otis has his No. 7. Check for the 7 to ensure you have Authentic Otis in your sights! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Overflow is known to frequent the Falls and the River, the same as Otis does. In fact, right after Otis left the Falls, 274 arrived on Brooks Falls cam and went to the Office, and here’s Overflow entering the screen right after Otis left it on River Watch. Little tricksters, they are! (Personally, we think 274 Overflow and 480 Otis are brothers from different litters to 438 Flo… thoughts?)

A short bit later, we see Otis with a DOA in the high grasses on River Watch — yum! They may be decomposing, but at least they’re in the cold waters, so at least it’sโ€ฆ persevered. ๐Ÿ˜‰ He meanders and periscopes toward the Bridge and scores another DOA. It’s Otie Gator season, and to be honest, he seems to be enjoying being with himself and meandering the River with the meganser ducks. We’re glad to see it!

Just before 9:30 a.m., we catch Otis again on Kat’s River View, as he gliiiides to the left, and then gliiiides to the right in search of salmon that’ve concluded their mission.

And then he proves me wrong (again). In two years of following him on every cam for the entire season, I’ve never seen him walk out to the Spit. He arrives from here sometimes from points elsewhere, but he hasn’t revisited during season (that I’ve seen). So anywayโ€ฆ he pauses to hit the Salad Bar (quite different than the Salmon Bar he’d rather be eating).

And by 9:30 a.m., he’s lying down for some comfy snoozles in the sun. ♥

Then I and several other chatters run off to do laundry and whatnotโ€ฆ

And by 3:00 p.m., Otis awakes! He looks like he’s going to hit the Snoozles button, but then gets up and slips into the water.

Then the confusion ensues. Both Otis and 274 Overflow are wandering the River and Overflow is mistaken for Otis a handful of times. We do see Otis once or twice, but no fish.

Just after 4:00 p.m., Otis is struttin’ up the Riffles toward the Falls.

He pops over to the Jacuzzi a minute and thinks better of it. He heads to the Conveyor to give 602 the side-eye indicating (and check for fish too!).

And Camops give us some great close-ups! He looks so fabulous, this main squeeze of mine! ๐Ÿ˜€

We’re thinking Otis’ side-eye is pretty powerful at this point because it works — 602 heads out — and Otis takes his proper place in his Office. It looks here like he’s swapped out his smoky Humphrey Bogart eyes for smokin’ Betty Davis eyes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And that brings us to about 5:00 p.m. Katmai time and out bedtime. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Total count is just 3 DOAs, but again, don’t let that get you down! The River is so expansive that we don’t get to see him on cam as much, and what do we always say? That’s right — he wouldn’t be here if there weren’t good eats!

We’ll catch up through midnight in the morning, and until then, sending wishes for fishes and fat bear dreams! ♥

And here’s your bonus GIF by Illeana_explores: How does a big burly bear look so cute just scratching an itch? Otis in his Office tending to said itch from last night!
