Otis Fishing Report for October 19, 2023: Just before 9:00 a.m. Katmai time, we catch up to Otis Meander Fishing near the Bridge on Kat’s River View cam.
It seems he is NOT going to make it easy for us today, as he attempts to hide behind a privacy curtain. Little does he know that his body language gives him away, and we *know* he’s eating. 😉
He meanders himself right off cams for a bit and then back on a short bit later — with lil eats! We’ve not previously thought to describe a CamOp as “meandering,” but today, um… yes, that’s it. Our CamOp stays with Otis a little left… a little right… a little zig… a little zag. And a little more zig and zag for good measure. Until Otis meanders himself out of frame again. 🙂
We did see who we think is 469 Patches, and he fooled a few of us into blurting out “Otis!”… or 274 “Overflow!”… or 89 “Backpack!” Dang those bears with Sheriff’s Badges!
Where Otis went only Otis knows for sure, but about 4 hours later, his Magic Portal Pass is punched, and he lands under the Bridge on Kat’s River View again, much to our delight!
He’s sniffing for fishes, has a little splash in his step, and comes up with a DOA forthwith, as captured in this GIF by Cruiser!
Altogether, we witness 7 DOAs on cam for October 19, and then Otis disappears off cams again. We tried Riffles and Brooks and Brooks Low, and Otis said nope. Perhaps he left for snoozles in the tall grasses, or maybe bear hugs with his girlfriend, or possibly just a little time away from the paparazzi.
Wherever he is this snuggly Alaskan evening, we’re sending him and all the bears Wishes for Fishes, and we’re sticking with Sunshiny Days for those solar panels! ♥
Bonus Content
We usually pick a special memory from the season for bonus content, and that’s what we think this shot is, though it’s from today. We just love the mood of this snap!

Thank you. Not getting much time on the cams at present and it’s so heartening to read Otis is still making meandering appearances. Makes me so happy.
You’re very welcome!
Thanks for these daily Otis updates.
