Otis Fishing Report for August 6, 2023
Jumping right in (to Otis’ belly!), at 12:25 a.m. Katmai time, we’ve got a barely visible fish, but a fish nonetheless! At 1:00 a.m., cam visibility is maybe inches with a forecast of bats and the large bugs they feed on (and that’s saying something, because we hail from a place where we have bugs big enough to be our state bird…). When the buggy weather clears, it’s not looking like Otis is still around.
A few hours later, a camop pops in and does a quick scan of the Falls. We see an unoccupied Office and the tables cleared at Alice’s. About 5:30 a.m., day breaks and the Office is still empty. At exactly 6:00 a.m., a very prompt Otis arrives from the Platform side of the Falls and heads to the Sandbar to gather pre-fishing intel on conditions.
He does a little morning yoga to stretch himself into Zen Mode. Don’t we all?
And he heads for Alice’s. To do what, you wonder? Stand on rocks, of course!
He heads to Wallflower’s Wall. And waits — for both fish and his Office. By 7:00 a.m. Katmai time, Otis has clocked in and takes command (“command” used loosely here) of his Office! The fish aren’t biting, so he takes a stroll toward Alice’s. He pauses to practice his new rock climbing skill and scope things out from a higher elevation. He returns to his Office.
The good news is that Otis remained undisturbed for more than 2 hours. The bad news is that’s how long it took before he got his first fish. When I walked away to run an errand, our boy catches another — of course! (Anyone else seeing a trend here?) Here’s Otis’ first fish in daylight today from Brooks Falls cam.
Cams panned away for the adorable Lip Fishers, but for you keen-eyed Otis fans, you saw him catch another a few minutes later on Brooks Falls Low, didn’t you? 😉
Just before 11 a.m., 128 Grazer decides the boss needs a nap, and she encourages Otis to vacate his Office for a bit while she… uh… tidies up. Yeah. That’s it. Otis decides arguing with Ms. Grazer isn’t worth the effort, bids her adieu, and walks off the Platform side promptly at 11 a.m.
It wasn’t until almost 4:00 p.m. that a curious camop spun the Brooks Falls cam around and we spy Otis behind the Platform sniffing out 907’s fish scraps, perhaps mixed with a little salad. Otis munched a few minutes and then appeared to go back and hit the snooze button for a lil bit longer.
Total Fish Count to this point today 3 Fish + 1 Scraps.
And that brings us to now. 🙂 I’m heading out, and that means Otis is probably heading in (you’re welcome, chatters! lol) Will update numbers tomorrow after rewinds.
I noticed a few more jumpers than earlier… so… wishes for fishes and full bear bellies! ♥
