Otis Fishing Not-A-Report for October 7, 2023: We’re down to three cams now — Riffles, Kat’s River View, and Brooks Falls — and with our eye on all three today, there’ve been no confirmed Otis Sightings. In lieu of Otis traversing the River or Falls, we offer this adorable snap of Otis in his Bank Bunk from August 18. Because a fuzzy bear belly is fun! 😀
And while we have your attention : The organization which brings these incredible creatures into our homes, Explore.org, is matching donations made to the Katmai Conservancy Otis Fund during Fat Bear Week to the tune of $300,000. As of this writing, they’ve collected $84,303! With Explore matching, that makes $168,606 for The Otis Fund!!
We’d love to see them hit their goal of $300,000, and we’re asking — if you can afford to do so — you to donate. Every single $1 or $5 or $50 helps and will be matched. To donate or watch a cool video of Mike Fitz, go to The Otis Fund. Then smash that big ol’ DONATE button to see the current donation total.
If you’re not in a position to donate, you can share the link with your friends and family and on social media and ask them to consider donating. Every dollar and share helps move the cause forward! ♥
We’re keeping our eyes peeled and until tomorrow, sending Wishes for Fishes to all the Fat Bears (and you too)! ♥

We asked Otis how he travels through the Magic Portals of Katmai because Kazbear would like to know. Otis says, “The Magic Portals are a Bear Secret passed down through the Ages by the Elder Bear Legends of Katmai. Bears like 409 Beadnose, 755 Scare D. Bear, 775 Lefty, and 24 BB share the Secret of the Portals with young bears who are destined for greatness.” He says he’s yearnin’ to tell all, but it’s strictly forbidden — he would lose his Portal Pass, if he tells us. 😉
And then he adds, “My best strategy for moving around is to wait until the CamOps — gotta love ’em! — are lookin’ at that young Buddha Bear 164 Bucky or fancy schmancy 32 Chocolate Chunk and you viewers — bless your hearts! — are watchin’ some silly COY slidin’ off the Falls. Then I sneak in and surprise y’all!” (And, yes, sometimes Otis speaks with a southern twang)

I really like your reports. It touches the innermost strings of my soul. Now I read about the magical bear portals and immediately imagined it as Otis moves in his bear world. It’s so great that there are people like you, kindred spirits, we think the same, it’s so wonderful. Thank you. Angelica is from Russia. Senushka 1515
I love that Otis unites people from around the globe! It’s nice to connect with you! Thank you so much for your comment, Angelica.
It’s been rumored that there are Magic Bear Portals for years. And, of course, a magical bear like Otis would use them! I imagine him that way too!
Is Otis fat enough for the winter?
I believe so, and Mike Fitz of Explore said as much too.
Thank you very much. I hope that Otis will still appear on the cameras.
Paws crossed!!
Love the pic with Otis sitting, his fuzzy belly, flat feet and toe beans front and center. Such a character you capture with amazing humor.
Thank you so much for your nice comment! So glad you enjoy the Reports!
