Otis Fishing Report UPDATE for September 27, 2023: Apparently, while we were writing last night’s Report and had cams on pause, Otis arrived at the Falls. It’s just before 6:00 p.m. Katmai time, and we can see him sneaking in on Riffles cam hugging the Far Bank. Brooks Falls cam is wide, and he’s camouflaged against the landscape. The cam pans right and heads to the Cut Bank. If you were watching on Riffles, you saw Otis’s Office was occupied by none other than Otis himself.
He stays only a few minutes and heads out from his Office the way he came in.
As he leaves, his Royal Guard Alices stand at attention for the King of Katmai, as he begins his meander across the River toward the Near Bank.
He pauses at the Sandbar for a quick sniff. It appears that one doesn’t pass inspection, and he keeps strolling. He spies two Who Bears at the Near Bank and, just for the fun of it, he tells them to “Get off his lawn!” and trots at them with a little Bluff Charge as seen from Riffles. Spunky, our boy is this evening!!
He turns to walk toward the Falls, and we pick him up on Brooks Falls Low, as he meanders the Near Bank. He heads Up the Fish Ladder and it appears he’s going to head toward a preferred napping spot. (If you’re keeping count, this is his 7th trip Up the Ladder this season, and we’ve witnessed 5 trips Down the Ladder… off balance, we are!)
Instead of heading to snoozles, however, Otis turns the other direction and takes the opportunity to Meander Fish above the Falls.
We know most aren’t happy to see any one bear on three cams, but it kinda made our job easy this time. 😉 We had Otis on Brooks, Brooks Low, and Riffles, and we managed to catch him eating two scraps atop the Falls on Riffles. We also saw him go toward the back of the Falls — where he might head to continue fishing — instead of off the Platform side — where he’d likely be napping.
We were limited to a quick review of Rewinds following Otis’ departure and before cams went to Highlights and didn’t see his return, so we’re calling the September 27 fish count at 1 Fish + 2 Scraps + 9 DOAs on cam.
Until the fog lifts on the River and/or Brooks cams are live, we’re sending Wishes for Fishes and Sunshiny Solar Power your way, Katmai! ♥
