Otis Fishing Report

Otis Fishing Report for September 19, 2023: Otis left for early evening snoozles at 7:30 p.m. Katmai time last night, and we didn’t spy him on cam again until 7:00 a.m. today. Our assumption is that he didn’t sleep that entire time, but only Otis knows for sure, and he does enjoy an Epic Nap from time to time, so anything is possible with our Snoozle Headed Boar.

Anywho, we pick him up entering his Office on Brooks Falls cam.

A short and unproductive 20 minutes later, he leaves for greener… errr… bluer waters, and 30 minutes after that, we find him on River Watch way back there behind the tall Grasses.

Otis continues surfing the River with other Legends of Katmai, including 747 who made an appearance Down River today (above), and snagging DOAs left and right, including this fairly large sized one.

He snorkles and meanders and chomps his way around the River and gives us this shot because he knows how much we adore Crinkle-nose Otis. 😉

Then he’s off cam for a while again and just after 11:00 a.m., Otis arrives back at the Falls via Riffles. He’s going at a decent clip here, kicking up water as he treks along there. Our boy *definitely* has pep in his step!

He stops at Alice’s for a bite of Salmon Scrapple Buffet, and then lands in his rightful place — his Office. We’re giving you two-fer snaps here, so you can decide whether to frame the hard gaze of Bogart Otis or dreamy-eyed Sexiest Bear Alive shot. 😉

And on the off-chance Dennis the Menace is your heartthrob, we’ve got Goofy Otis!

He hangs out for about an hour and then heads to the Sandbar. No luck. He shuffles over toward 89 Backpack’s Rock, hugs the bank again, and scores a quick scrap. He walks past the Platform Paparazzi and then pauses for a drink of water before heading Up the Fish Ladder, snagging a two-chew scrap, walking across the Falls, and sauntering out of sight of prying eyes.

About 2:30 p.m. Katmai time, a keen-eyed CamOp catches a glimpse of our sly guy walking across the top of the Falls. He hugs the bank in search of salmon, as is his tendency this time of year.

Otis quickly steps Down the Fish Ladder (number 4 this season, if you’re tracking) and heads toward Riffles. He pops in at the Sandbar to see what’s on today’s buffet. Wouldn’t ya know it — Salmon Scrapple again. He ain’t no picky bear though, and he picks up a couple bites then strolls over to the Near Bank and continues toward Riffles. He crosses over the Bear Portal (that’s new…), and heads into the River.

And instead of turning left toward the Lower River, he turns Right… because Old Bear, New Tricks.

Thirty minutes later, Otis hits up yoga class! Who says a bear can’t multitask?

And WHY is he yoga-ing and eating simultaneously? Well, we’re gonna tell ya!

IT’S A FISH! It took a couple of views and a magnifying glass, but that thing wiggled, and after all of those day-old fish from the bakery, a nice fresh, bit of lox and bagel is just what the Otis ordered! Blair-55 captured his true enjoyment in this GIF here on River Watch cam.

A few minutes later, he gets a whole DOA, and SuspectCelery captures it in this GIF.

All in all, it wasn’t a bad day, and Otis is still out there on River Watch — making cameo appearances now and again — with a total fish count of 1 Fish + 6 Scraps + 22 DOAs on cam! He definitely got his steps in and many were off cam, so figure out your favorite number and multiply by 22 DOAs, and we’re pretty sure that’s how much Otis ate today!
